Chattahoochee River
National Recreation Area

The Recreation Area lies within four counties, north and northeast of downtown Atlanta, Georgia. It consists of 16 land units along a 48-mile stretch of the Chattahoochee River. In addition to providing recreational activities such as fishing, hiking, picnicking, and boating, the park contains a wide variety of natural habitats, flora and fauna, nineteenth century historic sites, and Native American archeological sites.

Day-use only.
Summer (Mar.15 - Oct.31) 7 AM to 9 PM
Winter (Nov. 1 - Mar.14) 7 AM to 7 PM

CLIMATE:

Temperate. Short, cool winter. Hot summer. Long, mild fall and spring.

FEES:

Although there are no entrance fees, Chattahoochee NRA has instituted a daily parking fee for all units of the park. An Annual Parking Permit is available.

FACILITIES/OPPORTUNITIES:

Nine (9) park units with a total of 50 miles of hiking trails, including 3-mile fitness trail with exercise stations; Visitor Contact Stations at Paces Mill and Island Ford (HQ) Units; numerous picnic areas; canoe and raft rental beginning weekends in May, and daily, Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend; rental sites and concession stores at Johnson Ferry, Powers Island, and Paces Mill Units; shuttle bus between sites. Year-round fishing with Georgia fishing license and trout stamp.

None in park. Large number of motels and camping areas in adjacent metropolitan area.

BOOKSTORE/PASSPORT CANCELLATION:

Bookstores, passport stamps in Visitor Contact Stations at Paces Mill and Island Ford Units.

ACCESSIBILITY:

Restrooms, bookstores, and some trails accessible to wheelchairs.

RESERVATIONS/PERMITS:

Picnic tables and open areas on first-come basis. One 1,000-square foot pavilion and adjacent activity field may be reserved for large groups. Call Chattahoochee Outdoor Center at (770) 395-6851, or visit their web site at www.chattahoocheerafting.com for more information.
