Russell Cave National Monument is an archeological treasure containing evidence as to how prehistoric people lived in the Southeast for almost 10,000 years. Virtually, no other place in the region holds such a rich record offering clues to how the "First Americans" fed, clothed and protected themselves.

Highest in summer months: lowest during winter months.

OPERATING HOURS:
Daily, 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.; Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day.

CLIMATE, RECOMMENDED CLOTHING:
Summers generally hot and humid. Winters are generally mild. Recommend warmer clothing in winter; light clothing in summer.

DIRECTIONS:
Russell Cave is located 7 miles north of Bridgeport, Alabama. Take County Road 75 north from Bridgeport for approx. 4 miles, turn right on County Road 98, entrance is approx. 3 miles on your left.

TRANSPORTATION:
Transportation is not provided to the park.

No Fees.

FACILITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES:
Visitor Center/Exhibits:
Information Center. Exhibits on prehistoric Indians and their lifeways.

Programs, Activities:
Demonstrations of prehistoric tools and weapons.Guided archeological walks. Educational programs for groups available with reservations.

Lodging and Camping Facilities:
None in the park. A variety of lodging and camping are available in the area.

Food, Supplies:
A variety of stores and restaurants are within 10 miles of park.

Other Concessions, NPS-Managed Visitor Facilities and Opportunities:
Bookstore operated by Eastern National.

Accessibility:
Visitor Center, museum and cave mouth are accessible.  A Wheelchair is available.

RECOMMENDED ACTIVITIES/PARK USE:
Conducted programs and guided walks.

RESERVATIONS/PERMITS:
Reservations for school groups and other educational groups should be made in advance. For special events at least one months notice and application for Special Use Permits is required. Wild Caving and other off-trail activities requires a permit.

BASIC VISIT RECOMMENDATIONS:
A minimum of one hour is recommended to visit museum area and cave mouth. Add one hour for conducted programs.

Little River Canyon National Preserve, Fort Payne, Alabama; Chickamauga Chattanooga National Military Park, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia.
