Completed sections of this trail are found alongside the Natchez Trace Parkway near Rocky Springs and Jackson, Mississippi, and Nashville, Tennessee. The trail is also a unit of the National Tails System. Established March 28, 1983.

The Trail Segments include several existing portions of the historic Natchez Trace that lie within the boundaries of the Natchez Trace Parkway. three principal segments of the Trace near Nashville, Jackson and Natchez-totaling 70 miles (112.9 km) - have been developed for public use. Airports are available in Nashville and Jackson.
