Kennesaw Mountain
National Battlefield Park

Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield is a 2,884 acre National Battlefield that preserves a Civil War battleground of the Atlanta Campaign. The visitor center provides introductory information about the park and the battle. Authorized as a national battlefield site February 8, 1917.

OPERATING HOURS, SEASONS:
Open seven days a week, except closed Christmas day. Open 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with some extended hours in the summer. Call for specifics.

CLIMATE, RECOMMENDED CLOTHING:
Hot and humid in summer, usually mild winters.

DIRECTIONS:
Take exit 116 off I-75 and follow the brown and white park signs. We are four miles off the interstate.

TRANSPORTATION:
To Park: no public transportation to or through the park; bring your own vehicle.

FEES, COSTS, RATES:
No charge.

FACILITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES:
Visitor Center/Exhibits:
Visitor center contains a small exhibit area with Civil War uniforms, guns, cannon, and a medical kit, also a ten-minute slide program is provided.

Trails, Roads:
Sixteen miles of hiking trails are available. These trails can be divided into a three and one-half mile loop, five and one-half mile loop, ten mile loop, two mile loop and five and three-tenths mile loop. Roads go to the main areas also. Ranger and living history programs in peak season. Call for specifics.

Kennesaw Mountain Historical Association operates the book store sales area in the visitor center.

Accessibility:
Visitor center is fully accessible including auditorium, exhibits, phone, water fountain, rest rooms, etc.

Special Needs:
Captioned slide program is available on request. Visitors who are unable to ride our shuttle bus on the weekend will be allowed to follow our bus up. Ask at visitor center front desk.

RECOMMENDED ACTIVITIES/PARK USE:
View slides and exhibits; drive your car or on the weekend take our shuttle bus to the mountain top; drive to Cheatham Hill (the main battlefield); picnic or hike some of the 16 miles of trails.

Reservations required for groups over 15. See the Superintendent for permits for special activities.

BASIC VISIT RECOMMENDATIONS:
Please allow about two hours for your visit.

SPECIAL EVENTS, PROGRAMS:
Living history and ranger programs in the summer. Please call for specifics.

VISITOR IMPACTS:
We are a very heavily visited urban park. Major traffic problems sometimes occur, especially on the weekends. When you walk, please stay on the trails for your own safety and to protect the entrenchments.

ADJACENT VISITOR ATTRACTIONS:
Big Shanty Museum in Kennesaw, GA, houses the Civil War locomotive "General," which is about three and one-half miles from Kennesaw Mountain.
