General National Statistics

FedStats is a searchable database of statistical reports and topics compiled from all federal statistical agencies. It includes every subject about which the government collects data, including education.

Government Information Sharing Project is a cooperative project that provides information on locating statistics, including educational data, collected and published by state and local governments as well as the federal government.

Statistics - U.S.A. provides access to published statistics compiled by or for the federal government from national sources.

Education Statistics

The College Board collects and reports annual data on higher education institutions, majors, and student flows, particularly at the undergraduate level.

Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP) data are accessible from the Web site of the Higher Education Research Institute, University of California at Los Angeles. CIRP has conducted an annual attitude and characteristics survey of entering undergraduate students in U.S. institutions for over 30 years. The data are published in an ongoing report series titled The American Freshman.

Institute of International Education (IIE) collects and reports annual data on international student migration to and from the United States. These data are available in various formats from IIE under the title Open Doors.

National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) is the official federal statistical unit for education and is part of the U.S. Department of Education. NCES conducts a wide variety of studies and analyses, including international comparisons.

NCES Data Sets and Surveys describes the surveys and methodologies employed by the National Center for Education Statistics and provides direct access to online data sets and tables.

NCES Statistical Indicators Online provides direct access to the annual indicators used by the National Center for Education statistics to report on the condition and progress of education in the United States.

NCES Statistical Publications Online provides direct access to published data on education from the National Center for Education Statistics.

National Science Foundation (NSF) provides statistics on U.S. science and engineering resources; graduate students at the doctoral level; postdoctoral researchers; and science and engineering education.

U.S. Bureau of the Census is the official federal source of population statistics and conducts the Constitutionally mandated decennial census. Census reports cover many demographically related topics including economics, educational attainment, health, birth and mortality, cultural diversity, communications, and commerce.

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics is the official federal source of statistics on the working environment, labor market, employment, and work-related training requirements and outcomes.
