The Photoduplication Service provides expanded access to the collections of the Library of Congress through a wide range of photographic services. These services are designed to assist scholars, publishers, and members of the public who visit the Library and use the Library's collections in the reading rooms.
How to Order
Photographic products can be ordered in person, by mail, or via fax from the Photoduplication Service. In general, orders must be accompanied by reproduction numbers or call numbers that are used to identify the material being ordered. Reproduction numbers and call numbers are often included in online catalogs and publications. When the necessary reproduction numbers or call numbers are not found via these means, the numbers must be identified through research by the customer or by requesting the research services of the reading room that has custody of the material.
How to Pay for an Order
The Photoduplication Services accepts cash, checks, MasterCard, and Visa as payment for orders. All payments must be in U.S. currency. All prices are subject to change without notice.
Conditions of Copying
The Library of Congress can neither grant nor deny permission to copy or publish photographs and other reproductions purchased from this office. The recipient must decide the propriety of any use of this material, and publication is at the recipient's discretion. Material which is copyrighted or otherwise restricted will not be furnished knowingly. If material photographed from the Library's collections is published, a credit line, "Courtesy of the Library of Congress," will be appreciated.
Packaging, Shipping, and Mailing
All orders shipped within the US, Canada, and Mexico are subject to the order processing, packaging and shipping fees listed below. Shipping and handling charges for all other orders will be computed by weight and destination. All orders are packaged by hand to ensure that they reach their destination in the best possible condition. Those requiring different types of products (e.g., black-and-white prints or color transparencies) will be divided into separate orders to expedite processing. Other delivery options are available upon request.

Prints from original or copy negatives will not necessarily be identical in format or tonal values to a rpint on file in the Library or seen in a publication. No retouching is done to eliminate imperfections existing in the negative or the original material. The complete image will be printed unless cropping is requested.
Unless otherwise requested, GLOSSY PRINTS are furnished for 8" x 10" or smaller sizes, MATTE PRINTS are furnished for 11" x 14" or larger.

Exhibition quality prints are hand-crafted by our skilled technicians and printed with emphasis on visual effect. We compensate for deficiencies (deterioration, partial discoloration and/or fading or image, or extreme densities and contrasts, etc.) through dodging and burning.

Copy negatives are based on 8" x 10" format to maintain absolute sharpness and clarity. A customer may request a smaller format when purchasing only a negative. In this case, the customer will be charged the full price for each negative.

The Photoduplication Service produces color slides, color transparancies, and color negatives from original material on request. In some cases the Library may decide to retain a second copy in order to protect the original from damage due to further handling. In these cases a 50% surcharge will be added to the cost.
Please note that small details in maps and similar textual material of extreme size may not reproduce legibly in 35mm slides.
