IGM Library is one of the important central facilities of the University catering to the information needs of faculty, research scholars and students in Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Management, Sciences and Engineering. This library building was inaugurated by his Excellency late Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma the then Vice President of India, on 21-10-1988 and named after late Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi.
Mission
The main objective is to make the Library the most effective Learning Resource centre to contribute to the quality of higher education. The library also created learning environment by establishing Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) Searching Area, Laptop zone with Wi-Fi facility.
Distinctions
The library with its excellent IT infrastructure facilities has achieved several distinctions in the country.
IGM Library is the first University Library in India
To fully automate all its housekeeping operations
To undertake turnkey projects for computerizing other libraries and to provide network facilities in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad and City Central Library (City Grandhalaya Samstha, Ashok Nagar), Hyderabad.
To offer one year Post Graduate Diploma in Library Automation and Networking (PGDLAN) under Distance Education mode from 1998 with greater emphasis on practices and projects.
To subscribe online search databases since the year 1998 and full text databases from 2001
To become one of the governing body member of OCLC (Worldcat)
To install electronic surveillance and security system
The National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM) has recognized IGM Library as their Regional Library for South Zone from the year 1993 to provide resources to mathematics/statistics faculty and research scholars.
One of the initial 6 resource centres identified for Document delivery by INFLIBNET Centre, Ahmadabad (Other 5 resource centres are from - BHU, JNU, Punjab University, Indian Institute of Science, TISS)
One of the 26 resource centres for nation-wide Document Delivery Services to all universities.
Conducted 4 weeks Refresher Course in Library and Information Science in 2005
One of the participating libraries of the one million book project of Carnegie Mellon University, USA for creating a Universal Digital Library.
Received best usage awards for electronic databases – ACS, RSC, Scifinder, Wiley, IEEE, JSTOR
Formed as beta platform to SCOPUS (2005) and currently to EBSCO Discovery.

ICT Infrastructure
Since its inception, the library has taken visible measures in making use of the ICT advancements

1 GB National Knowledge Network for accessing on-line databases
Wi-Fi connectivity with 11 instruments. Soon will be updated with MHRD infrastructure
New IBM Data servers were installed in May 2013, with 600 GB hard disk capacity, Data base server and backup server 600 GB with the storing capacity of 3 TB and tape library for auto back up.

5 scanners, 5 computer workstations for visually challenged students with special software - JAWS with 10 user license, document reading software Kruzwel, to listen to printed books Zoomex using scanner/with OCR facility. 2 additional systems and a special Braille printer is also available.

ETD LAB is equipped with high endDigital Book Scanners - i2s/Zeutschel/ATIZ for the digitization of theses/dissertation/rare books and university publications, 10 computers, OCR software , image cleaning software, OCR (Abbey Fine Reader) etc.
