dc.description.abstract Although Indian emigration has been taking place for centuries, never before in history India witnessed such massive movements of people from India to other parts of the world as in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Among the immigrants of diverse nationalities, overseas Indians constitute a sizable segment. Following an introductory note on the demographic profile of Canada, the present paper discusses the nature of Indian emigration and the emergence of institutions to promote Indian identities in Canada. © Serials Publications.
