dc.description.abstract This chapter presents an overview of various applications, physical and chemical properties of metal-oxide nanostructures with particular focus on ZnO. The hydrothermal route for synthesis of nanostructures is discussed. Based on the literature, applications of ZnO nanostructures in selfcleaning, surface enhanced Raman scattering and photoluminescence are reviewed. Finally, motivation of the present work based on research gaps and objectives of the thesis are presented
